The Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran faith community, a member of the growing association of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC), is a diverse group of people united by our common mission to gather as God’s people, to grow in understanding God’s Word and grace, and to go and serve others in Jesus’ name. As a matter of fact, our motto is “Gathered, Guided and Sent” and we truly believe this is how we are called to live our life as Christians. Read more about this in our pastor’s message.
Our congregation is not the church but a member of the church – the body of Christ, which is God’s instrument for salvation and reconciliation. God uses Shepherd of the Hills to bring His Word to a lost and fallen world; to be an emissary of His Grace; and to meet the needs of His people near and far.
We are Lutheran in tradition, emphasizing salvation as a gift of God’s grace and mercy, yet, we are ecumenical in our ministry and outreach willing to work with all Christians for relief of suffering and for advancement of God’s Kingdom. Likewise, we invite all Christians to worship with us and join us in our work in God’s vineyard.
Fully embracing our citizenship in both the heavenly and earthly kingdom, Shepherd of the Hills is not only a spiritual entity within the world but a civic entity within the community. As such we strive to support and partner with community leaders to improve the quality of life for those who live in the Lead/Deadwood area. In this respect we believe in the saying “Have and Neighbor; Be a Neighbor.”
